Preventive Maintenance

electrical equipment

Since primary and secondary equipment have few moving parts, it’s easy to overlook performing any testing or maintenance of electric equipment.  Taking a proactive approach will greatly reduce costly electrical outages, equipment damage or unexpected shutdowns.

Beginning at your substation, main switch or transformer, our dedicated professionals will provide a thorough evaluation of your electric equipment with the latest technology to maintain system reliability.  To get started, a low cost transformer fluid analysis and thermograph inspection of your electric distribution is recommended.

During the fluid sampling, a thorough inspection of the transformer is performed to assess the overall condition of the unit.  This typically can be performed without a shutdown.  A transformer oil analysis allows us to analyze and trend the health of your transformer to ensure minimum fluid properties are maintained.  We also check the gas content for signs of overload, overheating or electrical disturbances that may lead to failure if not corrected.   If diagnosed early, many of these issues can be resolved with a scheduled shutdown and repair.

Other transformers use air to remove the heat generated in the windings.  Because these "dry type" units use vents open to the local environment, periodic cleaning and electric testing are recommended to extend the service life of this equipment.

The thermograph inspection allows us to detect overloaded circuits, faulty or high resistance connections, damaged fuses and clips, and other defective electrical components, before they can cause expensive facility damage or production loss.  With our nonintrusive inspection, we can evaluate primary switchgear, overhead cables, connection points and secondary protection devices to provide you early warning and documentation of incipient failures.

With preventive maintenance services, we can establish a baseline of equipment status, allow for planned outages, improve reliability and extend the life cycle of equipment.  It’s our goal to help you avoid unexpected repairs and production losses.

We inspect, maintain and test the following equipment:

  • Transformers (fluid filled and dry type)
  • Voltage regulators
  • Primary switchgear
  • Main distribution panels
  • Circuit breakers
  • Cables
  • Relays
  • Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
