Free Electrical Inspections
In addition to livestock, the company also serves cash crop, vegetable and fruit farms.
“Our farming community represents one of Michigan’s largest economic contributors and ranks among the nation’s leaders in cherries, beans, celery, apples, cucumbers, maple syrup and milk.”

Consumers Energy electricity helps keep animal waterers from freezing, milking parlors operating, incubators warm, lighting illuminated, irrigation flowing, and grain dryers and feeders running, among other vital farm activities.
In 1994, we began a Farm Service Maintenance Program where livestock customers are regularly checked for stray voltage or other electrical problems. As part of this service, the company’s field representatives provide free electrical inspections to over 2,000 farms each year in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.
Our staff keeps a comprehensive list of farm customers with animals that are more susceptible than humans to stray voltage. This also helps the farm energy partners keep an accurate record and assist farm owners with remodeling and expansion efforts.
