Investing in solar energy for Michigan

On July 26, 2011, the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) approved an expansion of Consumers Energy Company’s (Consumers Energy) Experimental Advanced Renewable Program (EARP).   This expanded EARP (Program) is part of the Amended Renewable Energy Plan prepared by Consumers Energy in accordance with Public Act 295 of 2008 (2008 PA 295).

On May 1, 2012 (Case No. U-16581), the MPSC approved Program amendments recommended by Consumers Energy effective June 30, 2012.  These amendments include:  (i) Program capacity; (ii) selection process guidelines and (iii) pricing for each residential and non-residential allocations.

This Program expansion is limited to 3,250 kilowatts (kW) of DC nameplate capacity, with 1,625 kW reserved for residential systems and 1,625 kW reserved for non-residential systems.  Consumers Energy began awarding capacity in the expansion to interested participants beginning in October 2011.
