Do You Need A Michigan General Sales Tax Exemption Form?
Business customers are required to submit a copy of the Michigan General Sales Tax Exemption form to us if they are claiming an exemption. This ensures we have the tax exemption status on file, and are billing you accordingly. For more information about tax exemptions, visit the State of Michigan Department of Treasury website.

Are You Requesting a Refund?
If your account is currently taxable and it should be exempt, you may be entitled under Michigan law to receive a credit on your Consumers Energy account. We’re allowed to credit taxes paid for a period up to 48 months. In order to process a tax credit, we require the following:
1. A letter on company letterhead identifying the Consumers Energy account number, service address and a period of time the refund is being requested.
2. A completed Michigan Sales Tax Exemption form.
3. If you’re acting on behalf of a Consumers Energy customer please contact us for Power of Attorney information.
