A Perfect Summer Day in Michigan

From ice cream cones to a day near the water, we all have our own version of what the perfect summer day looks like. And you don’t even have to leave the state to enjoy the summer season. The weather is heating up in Michigan and there is plenty to do in communities throughout our state.

Consumers Energy is proud to power recreation in Michigan, making this season fun for everyone! Here are our top five spots for a perfect summer day:

A Trip to the Zoo

There’s nothing better than a zoo on a sunny day! Zoos offer entertainment, education and fun all in one afternoon trip. Plus, there are plenty of zoos located throughout our great state. The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak is a favorite. While you’re there, don’t miss the Consumers Energy-sponsored Polk Penguin Conservation Center and the Arctic Ring of Life, as well as Dinosauria that runs until September 5th!

Binder Park Zoo located in Battle Creek is another one of our favorites, home to a variety of animals and fun experiences.

Fishing at the Dam

Some of the best fishing spots throughout Michigan are near our hydroelectric dams. Known for its beauty, Tippy Dam Pond – near the Manistee River in Wellston – is a great recreation spot, offering fishing, hiking, canoeing and camping.

Consumers Energy operates 13 hydroelectric dams that provide clean, renewable energy for Michigan residents.

A Walk at the Nature Center

Grab your hiking boots and take in our state’s stunning scenery at one of our nature centers. Many offer hiking trails, exhibits and wildlife experiences fit for kids. One of the best is the Blandford Nature Center in Grand Rapids. Be sure to check out the birds onsite!

Scientific Fun at the Museum

Need something hands-on? There is so much to do at our local science centers. Admission is affordable and the exhibits and events provide hours of fun. We recommend Mount Pleasant Discovery Museum and the Water Works and Beemazium exhibits.

Swimming at the Waterpark

Lastly, how could it be a summer day without a place to cool down? Gold Rush Waterpark in Rothbury features pools, slides and indoor and outdoor activities, with plenty of fun for the whole family.

What are you waiting for? Get out and explore all that our beautiful state has to offer! We look forward to hearing about your summer adventures and the memories you’ll make.
