Electricity Sales Options

Consumers Energy's purchases of electricity from small-scale electric generating systems are limited to renewable energy systems as described below.

Renewable Energy Systems

Consumers Energy will purchase electricity from renewable energy systems, defined as Qualifying Facilities, under the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA). Solar, wind, hydro and biomass, including landfill gas, are Qualifying Facilities under PURPA. For more information on Qualifying Facilities, click on “What is a qualifying facility?” Consumers Energy does not sell nor install renewable generators.
