Consumers Affordable Resource for Energy

Consumers Energy is helping qualified customers afford and better manage their monthly energy costs with the CARE Program. CARE customers receive a monthly credit on their Consumers Energy bill as well as help with a past due balance. CARE is offered to qualified customers as part of Consumers Energy’s commitment to providing affordable energy to Michigan. Keep reading to learn more!

  • Monthly CARE credit on energy charges provides an affordable monthly bill
  • Outstanding past due balance at the time of enrollment will be frozen and reduced as a reward for on-time monthly payments
  • Energy efficiency opportunities are available from the Helping Neighbors Program for free in-home services

CARE Eligibility

 
CARE Program Monthly Eligibility Guidelines
            
  • Must meet the household income guidelines (see table).

  • Must be past due on your Consumers Energy account, and outstanding balance must be less than $2,000.

  • Must be 18 years or older to apply.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, or legal alien, to apply.

  • Must be an active residential Consumers Energy
    account holder, or the spouse of the account holder.

  • No theft or fraud on the account

CARE Enrollment Process

Thank you for your interest in the CARE Program. Current participants will finish the one-year plan on September 30 and are not eligible to re-apply.


Open enrollment for new CARE applicants will begin in early October. At that time, application materials will be linked here. 

We encourage you to seek assistance with your past-due bill through other available resources. Many agency programs open in October. Some of the key programs are outlined in the table below.
