Plug-in Electric Vehicle Rates

Managing Your Charging Expenses

Our residential electric rates can help you reduce and manage the cost of fuel for your plug-in vehicle (PEV). Choose from our residential electric time of day or PEV rates.

Fuel Your Home and PEV

You have the option to continue paying for all of your home’s electricity (including your new vehicle) on your current residential rate. Having a PEV does not require you to change your current rate or require a special meter. Consumers Energy offers two rates designed specifically for plug-in vehicles; The Experimental Residential Plug-in Electrical Vehicle Rate is generally used with your existing smart meter and applies to all of your electric use (household and PEV). The lower “off peak rate” incentivizes customers to charge their vehicle during off peak hours. Additionally, the lower off peak pricing applies to all of your electric use.

The Residential Time of Day Rate is similar to the Plug-in Vehicle Rate but offers different time parameters. A time of day rate means that your kWh cost will differ depending on the time of the day electricity is used. If you can shift your electricity use to low-cost evening, early morning and/or weekend periods, you may benefit from these rates.

The following schedules apply Monday through Friday. Weekends and holidays are off-peak. Other charges may apply.
