When you enroll in the AC Peak Cycling Program for Multifamily Properties, you can earn $25 per rental unit while your residents also earn incentives for participating. Plus, you’ll help support a cleaner future for Michigan.

After you enroll in the program, we’ll install devices on or near the residential air conditioning units you have for free. From there, the devices can reduce your residents’ AC use on a select number of days (known as Energy Savings Events) when energy use is in high demand.
When an Energy Savings Event happens, we’ll notify residents and activate the devices remotely to reduce the compressor’s run time by 40-75%. The fan will continue to circulate air and keep your residents cool while reducing the amount of energy used.
Events usually occur on non-holiday weekdays between noon and 8 p.m. and typically last up to four hours.

$25 Pre-Paid Gift Card
Residents will get a $25 pre-paid gift card after installation. New residents will be automatically enrolled when they move in.
Bill Credits During the Summer
Residents will earn $8 in bill credits per month (June – September), for a total of $32 each year they participate in the program.
Flexible Participation
Residents can choose to unenroll from the program at any time.
Frequently Asked Questions
To qualify for this program, your property must be registered as a Consumers Energy electric customer and each unit must be individually metered.
Eligible equipment includes, Split AC OR Heat Pumps; Mini-Split AC AND Heat Pumps; MagicPak systems. Package Terminal AC and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps are not eligible for this program
Your units must also be on the Summer Peak Rate, Smart Hours, or Nighttime Saver rates.
When demand is high, we will schedule an Energy Savings Event. Events typically occur on non-holiday weekdays between noon and 8 p.m. and typically last up to four hours from June-September.
- Residents with an email on file will be notified before all events.
- We remotely cycle your residents' AC for a short time reducing the amount of energy being used.
- AC output will be reduced by 40%-75%, but the fan will continue to circulate air.
- Once the Event is complete, AC output will return to normal.
If an AC unit with a device needs to be replaced, we provide free disconnection and reconnection services for the installed device. If you are planning to replace an AC unit at your property, please contact us at 517-435-3885 to schedule device service.
If the installed device malfunctions, we will provide service at no cost to your or your tenants.
