With aging infrastructure and changing weather patterns, work is needed to secure Michigan’s grid – and that work comes at a cost. On Jun. 2, 2026, we asked the Michigan Public Service Commission to approve new electric rates to cover these costs. If approved, the average home with a monthly electric bill of $155 would see an estimated monthly increase of $13 (9%) starting in May 2027.

On Dec. 16, 2025, we asked the Michigan Public Service Commission to approve new natural gas rates to cover these costs. If approved, the average home with a monthly natural gas bill of $88 would see an estimated monthly increase of $7.21 (8.2%) starting in November 2026.
