People: Working to End Poverty in Michigan
Basic Needs
The Consumers Energy Foundation partners with nonprofits that help individuals and families who are in crisis and help pave the way to long-term self-sufficiency. These organizations serve Michigan’s most vulnerable populations by providing vital resources such as a safe place to stay, food, clothes, and basic household items. They also help by teaching job skills to support future stability.
Education
Our investments in education focus on helping students build essential skills and thrive in school--from early learning to college and career training. We fund programs that teach STEM, money management and reading, outdoor learning experiences, and mentoring relationships.
Workforce Readiness
The Consumers Energy Foundation invests in workforce readiness programs that prepare people of all ages for high-demand careers in STEM and skilled trades, especially in the energy field. These efforts support career exploration, robotics and technical training, and skill development. Building these skillsets can lead to great jobs and long-term economic stability across Michigan.Improving Lives Statewide
The Consumers Energy Foundation supports FIRST Robotics to spark STEM interest and prepare Michigan’s students for future jobs.
We’re investing in the next generation of agriculture leaders and educators by supporting Michigan Future Farmers.

Planet: Working to Improve the Environment
Air
The Consumers Energy Foundation supports nonprofits committed to reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality across Michigan. Funded projects include large scale tree planting, urban forestry work, and other nature based solutions that help decrease air pollution and support a healthier atmosphere for future generations.
Land
The Consumers Energy Foundation supports nonprofits that aim to protect, preserve, and restore land in Michigan. This includes protecting and improving the natural beauty and wildlife habitats of the land as well. Past grants have supported projects such as transforming former commercial properties into native habitats and restoring critical ecosystems for threatened species.
Water
Michigan’s freshwater systems require ongoing care to maintain their ecological health. The Consumers Energy Foundation supports nonprofits that are dedicated to preserving and enhancing water quality in the Great Lakes and the inland waterways that flow into them. Recent grants have funded community-based stream monitoring efforts and programs that improve conservation practices and promote responsible water use.Improving the Environment of the State We Love
