How It Works
A professional technician installs a free device on your central air conditioning unit.
On days when demand is high, we will reach out to you to let you know we are scheduling
an Energy Savings Event.
On event days we’ll remotely cycle your air conditioner for a short time. The output of your air conditioner will be reduced 40 - 70%, but your home will remain comfortable. This saves electricity during the afternoon, when rates are highest.
When the event is over your air conditioner will return to normal. Events usually only last four hours.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most people tell us they don’t notice much of a change in comfort during events. Many things can affect the temperature inside your home - the temperature outside, insulation, oven use and more.
Energy Savings Events are usually in the summer months of June through September. They are called during an electric supply emergency, or when we expect peak electricity demand during hot, humid weather. While there is no maximum number of events each year, we try to limit the total to less than 10 events. Back-to-back events sometimes occur when hot, humid weather is expected several days in a row.
Yes. You can opt out of one event every calendar year. To opt out of an event please call 877-789-9883. Opt-outs can be requested in advance or after an event has already started. Opt-outs scheduled in advance will only count against your one-per-year limit if the event occurs that day.
Events are planned when electricity use is expected to be the highest, is in short supply, or will be expensive.
For planned HVAC service, please call us at 877-789-9883 to schedule a service appointment to remove the AC cycling device. When your HVAC work is complete, call us back and we’ll schedule a time to reconnect the device.
If you need emergency HVAC service, please ask your contractor to set the device aside. Call us at 877-789-9883 to schedule a service appointment to reconnect the device. There is no charge to disconnect or reconnect the AC Peak Cycling device.
Peak demand refers to periods of high energy demand. These periods typically occur during the summer months, when electricity use increases. Lowering energy use during times of peak demand reduces the need to purchase electricity when it’s the most expensive, keeping energy affordable and reliable.
