To qualify for new home rebates all homes must be inspected by a Certified RESNET Home Energy Rater

Give the Home a Score

To qualify all homes are to be inspected by Certified RESNET Home Energy Rater.

Participating Builders work with a third-party Home Energy Rating Score (HERS) inspector to:

  • Provides a comprehensive home energy report
  • Test air-tightness of home, leakiness of HVAC distribution system, and evaluate insulation
  • Register home on RESNET National Registry
  • HERS-rated homes are sold for, on average, 2.7% more than comparable unrated homes.

Homes must qualify for rebates with a HERS rating of 56 or less

Build to a Higher Standard

Homes that achieve a HERS rating of 56 or less qualify for a rebate from Consumers Energy.

A typical qualifying home will have:

  • High-efficiency HVAC
  • Tightly constructed building envelopes
  • High Performance Windows
  • High-efficiency lighting and appliances
  • Comprehensive water management system
  • Lower energy bills

There are many benefits to building an ENERGY STAR H0ome, both to the homeowners and the builder

Strive Further: Build an ENERGY STAR® Home

Homes earning the ENERGY STAR® label offer additional benefits, including:

  • ENERGY STAR Windows/Appliances/HVAC
  • Higher Rebates: Up to $2,000 in rebates for natural gas and electric homes and $1,400 for natural gas-only homes
  • An average 20% savings on energy bills, and lower maintenance costs
  • Enhanced performance and comfort, including reducing dust, pollen, bugs and excessive humidity
  • Better for the environment and Michigan’s future
