How It Works
Customers in this program will earn monthly bill credits equal to the value of the renewable energy we produce and sell each month.
Renewable energy is made at wind and solar facilities right here in Michigan.
We partner with local assistance agencies to sign up customers who qualify, allowing you to save money.
Your monthly bill is lowered with credits from the renewable energy we produce and sell. And you can feel good knowing you’re supporting reliable energy supply for Michigan.
Who Can Get Help
You may qualify if:
- You receive electric service from us
- Your household income meets program guidelines
- You currently receive support from other low-income assistance programs
- You are experiencing financial hardship or live in a neighborhood where many households have lower incomes
- A local agency has confirmed you qualify

We team up with local assistance agencies to help you sign up. Or, you can fill out the form below to see if you’re eligible. Enrollment will depend on supply and program capacity. You can also check out Available Offers under your Consumers Energy account details to see what help you can get.
Green-e Energy Certified

No, there is no cost to participate. You’ll only receive credits on your bill.
Yes. Although the amount can vary from month to month. The credit will appear as a line item on your bill called “Green Giving Credit.”
Yes. This is because the renewable energy is sold each month and the amount received changes based on market prices. Based on previous years the average credit ranges from $10-$20 per month.
The term of the program is 12 months from the date you’re enrolled.
Not exactly. The electricity used to power your home will continue to be supplied from a mix of resources. But your participation in Green Giving supports the development of new renewable energy resources in Michigan, like wind and solar. You are joining a community of people committed to leaving Michigan better for generations to come.
If you move, your enrollment will be canceled unless you ask to transfer it to your new home within our service territory. You can make the transfer request by emailing greenpower@cmsenergy.com.
There are no cancellation fees. You may request to be removed at any time by emailing greenpower@cmsenergy.com.
Everyone deserves a cleaner future regardless of their home or their financial situation. The Green Giving Program is a state approved program that is funded by internal and external donors to advance clean energy in Michigan. The purpose of this program is to allow eligible customers in need the opportunity to experience the financial and environmental benefits from our renewable energy projects throughout Michigan.
