Be Aware and Prepare
Michigan has its share of wicked weather which can cause power outages. A little preparation goes a long way. Make sure your family is ready for whatever the seasons have in store by making an emergency preparedness plan. Do 1 Thing suggests tackling one simple task a month to get it done. We’ve put together a list of the key elements you’ll want to consider. The following sources can also help:

- If you have electrically-powered medical equipment, ask your physician, nurse or equipment provider about an emergency plan before an outage occurs
- Have at least a three-day supply of food, water and medication on hand
- Stock enough supplies for infants and pets
- Store first aid kits in the home and in the car
- Keep flashlights, a portable radio and plenty of fresh batteries handy
- Make sure family members know how to get in touch with each other during an emergency
- Store emergency contacts in your mobile phone
- Know where your cell phone charger is

- Keep cash on hand in case ATMs and credit card machines are not working
