Please be mindful of crews actively restoring power and maintain a safe distance from downed wires
As crews ramp up their response to storms that rampaged across Michigan, Consumers Energy is reminding customers to put safety first today. The energy provider is encouraging people to watch for downed wires and crews working along often busy roads.
“We are committed to getting the lights back on as quickly as possible for our friends and neighbors today, but we’re just as committed to ensuring the public and our coworkers are safe,” said Sri Maddipati, one of Consumers Energy’s Officers in Charge for this storm. “After a sleepless night, we want to encourage everyone to slow down and take steps that protect themselves and our crews doing critical restoration work today.”
Maddipati said today will be especially busy for lineworkers across Michigan. Consumers Energy has mobilized 500 crews to help customers after a powerful line of storms caused outages from Kalamazoo and west Michigan counties to Lansing and Saginaw.
He asked the public today to be alert to crews working along roads, and to slow down. People should also stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines. Anyone who comes across an unguarded downed line should first call 9-1-1, then Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.
